Discover your Emotional Wisdom

In nature, seeds show their wisdom. They intuitively grow up toward the light and life. They push their way through obstructions, deal with adverse weather, and cope with pests and poison in order to complete the mission they have on earth.

We have the wisdom and power to nourish our potential and reach for the light. We are capable of growth and have the ability to get through life's adversities. What we need to do is pay attention to our inner wisdom and nourish the seed within, and fight our way through darkness to survive. If we do this, there is no telling what we can blossom into during the ever-changing seasons of our lives.

12 Steps to Recovering your Emotional Wisdom

This month we will focus on recovering our emotional empowerment. Obtaining true emotional empowerment begins with eliminating any emotional stressors that do not need to be a part of our lives. This doesn't mean that you should eliminate the "thing" that brings about the negative emotions in you. What it means is empowering yourself to change the way you feel about something so that it can evolve from a negative stressor to a positive one.

Perhaps your frustration over an unfulfilling job will push you to make a change and move on to something you would be happier with. Don't let your emotions drag you down and bury you under the negative stressors in your life. See your emotional messages as clues to what you need to do to make a positive change. When you stop obsessing about how bad things are, you can convert that negative energy into creating a happier life, moving towards a positive emotional state that promotes and supports good health.

Step 2: Recovering Your Emotional Empowerment
Awareness is crucial to emotional management and empowerment. Let's take a look at our emotional habits. Take some time to come up with an honest evaluation of your emotional response habits. As you read the statements below, note whether your behaviour most often fits what is described under Column A or Column B.

Your Emotional Responses

 Column A

 Column B

It's hard for me to relax.  I can let go and relax easily.
I often have a short fuse.  I consider myself to be very patient.
I don't tend to share my emotions.  I express my emotions productively.
I let unaddressed issues linger.  I handle conflict as it comes up.
My thoughts are often negative.  I think in a very positive way.
I don't feel very good about myself.  I think I'm terrific!
I shut people out.  I'm very open.
I'm not very organized.  I plan and organize regularly.

If you identified mostly with the statements in Column A, don't worry! You have a lot of room to grow! Think about how you could respond differently and begin to incorporate these new behaviours into your life. Remember it's crucial to be aware of our emotional responses in order to live in harmony with others.

To begin Step 2, acknowledge and eliminate the negative stressors in your life so you can change your emotional responses find true emotional empowerment.

Suggestions to Help You Recover Your Emotional Empowerment

There will always be situations that challenge our ability to manage our emotional responses. Learning to manage our emotional reactions is empowering. Experience and deal with the emotion as it comes.

During or near the emotional response:

1. Recognize the shift in your physical state. Do you feel as if you're about to cry? Do you feel aggressive
or want to scream or attack physically?
2. Start breathing more slowly and deeply. Calm down with gentle abdominal breathing.
3. Gain perspective with a time out. Walk away from the situation. Go to another room, step outside or call
a friend to vent your feelings.
4. Spend time in quiet contemplation before confronting anyone. Quiet time will produce clarity.
5. The power of affirmation can help to change your perception. Allow your awareness to shift with phrases
like "things aren't always as they seem", "I can see this situation differently", etc.
6. When you're ready to talk, be ready to listen. There might be a misunderstanding so listen to gain
    perspective.
7. Resolve the issue cleanly. Don't give up until you find a resolution, or feel you've explored all alternatives.
Emotional empowerment means you are dealing with your emotions in a healthy manner. The next time you
feel a charged outburst about to pop, try these seven simple steps to feel empowered with healthy emotional
    expression.

Emotional empowerment can be incorporated into your daily life!

• Engage in meditation, prayer, or some other form of introspection to tap into your inner emotional

on the grass and enjoy the sky...recharge your emotional batteries.
• Watch out for information overload. Limit the amount of internet and TV you consume during the week.
• Get enough sleep to prevent becoming emotionally vulnerable.
• Exercise regularly.
• Surround yourself with positive people.

A Little Inspiration

As humans, we can learn so much from plants. Seeds and plants have quiet times in which
they restore and nourish themselves. How often do you take the time to nourish, restore
